If someone told me in August that a player this season would catch 20 touchdown passes, I don’t know if I would have guessed Vandenhaak. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t believe he could do it, but I’m glad that he did. What a great kid. What a great season. His 20 touchdown catches is the new single season record for Whatcom County. His 1454 receiving yards is a new Meridian record for a single season. Oh, and he also carried the ball over 100 times as a running back. Usually the fastest player on the field in every game he played in, or at least it seemed that way. He scored at least one touchdown in 13 of the Trojans’ 14 games. He was named All-Conference 1st Team, as well as All-State 1st Team, at wide receiver. Was also named All-State 2nd Team for “All-Purpose” on offense, and was named All-State 2nd Team as a defensive back.
