The Pioneers had a tremendous passing attack, and Veening was the main beneficiary of it. He led the team in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. He was a mis-match problem for opposing corner backs He knew when quarterback Casey Bauman was scrambling around in the backfield to just sprint down the left sideline and look for the deep pass. He also corrected me before the season, messaging me and saying that HE was the player that led the Pioneers in interceptions last year, and I loved that he reached out to me and tell me that. We had a fun message exchange back and forth, and later that night against Blaine he picked off a pass in the endzone. I was standing on the sidelines taking pictures, and he looked at me with the ball, showed it to me as if to say, “That’s #1!” It was a pretty cool moment, and I’ll miss watching him play.
