The 1992 Lions were coming off their second state championship in school history, and they were in the second year under young head coach, Curt Kramme. Few starters returned, but as usual, Lynden re-loaded and were just fine.

Senior quarterback Jay DeYoung was efficient, completing 28-of-77 passes for 498 yards and four touchdowns, and he was named All-League Honorable Mention. Unfortunately, he was in a car accident in mid-October, and missed the rest of the regular season. Sophomore quarterback Andy Jones took over, and in his first varsity start at quarterback he led the Lions to a huge 21-6 victory over the rival Lyncs of Lynden Christian. Jones finished the season completing 6-of-19 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns. Strong-armed senior Aaron Hermanutz was used on trick plays aptly named “The Hermy Special”. He completed 5-of-7 passes for 234 yards and three touchdowns.

Scott Noteboom

Senior Scott Noteboom was the workhorse for the Lions. He ran for 1079 yards on 177 carries (6.1 average) and 11 touchdowns. It was the second season in a row that he led the entire county in rushing, and he was named as the League’s Offensive Player of the Year, as well as All-League 1st Team. Sophomore Ben Wall showed promise as the eventual successor to Noteboom. Wall ran for 375 yards on 51 carries (7.4) and three touchdowns and was named All-League 2nd Team. Junior fullback Jeremy Swedelius was a pleasant surprise, with 58 carries for 307 yards (5.3) and three touchdowns and was named All-League Honorable Mention.

Senior wide receiver Dan MacPhee was a huge big-play threat, catching 11 passes for 393 yards (35.7) and five touchdowns, and he was named All-League 1st Team. Senior tight end Dion Terry was the main target, catching 21 passes for 382 yards (18.2) and four touchdowns. He had a rare combination of size (6’4″ 200) and speed, which helped him gain All-League 1st Team honors. Noteboom and Wall each caught five passes.

Benson led the Lions on defense from his linebacker position. He led the team with 58 solo tackles, 40 assisted tackles, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick. He also had four tackles for a loss, two passes defended, an interception, and he was named All-League 1st Team. Terry was named All-League 1st Team at defensive end. He finished with 20 solo tackles, 11 assisted tackles, 6.5 tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, one interception and one fumble recovery. Noteboom was named All-League 1st Team at defensive back, and ended the season with 26 solo tackles, 10 assisted tackles, one interception and one fumble recovery.

Wall was named All-League 2nd Team at defensive back, with 29.5 solo tackles, 19 assisted tackles, seven passes defended, three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. MacPhee led the team with five interceptions while junior Kip Baar was the team leader with nine tackles for a loss.

MacPhee booted 14 extra points and one field, and he was named All-League 2nd Team at kicker. Junior Nate Kleindel also kicked eight extra points. MacPhee averaged 33.3 yards per punt, while Terry totaled 105 yards in kickoff returns, while Noteboom returned eight punts for 85 yards.
